Jolan became an amputee after her cancer diagnosis at the age of 13. After learning to walk with her prosthetic leg, she became active in hockey, volleyball and track and field before being introduced to parasport. She began as a cyclist and transitioned to the sport of sitting volleyball. Jolan has been on the National Women's Sitting Volleyball Team since 2008.
Hey, I'm Jo. As a female with a disability, I feel it is my role to educate and inspire the next generation. I want little girls and boys to see me living my dreams and know that they too can achieve anything they put their heart into. I believe that parasport is the gateway to equality and that it creates a level playing field for everyone to enjoy sport. Let's connect!
We acknowledge the land on which ParaSport® Ontario was built is the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit and the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, the Wendat, and the Haudenosaunee peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum agreement to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. Today Toronto (also known as Tkaronto) is home to many First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous people.
