ParaSport® Ontario. There is a sport for everyBODY!”

Sarah Gillies

Sarah Gillies

Sarah was born with fibular hemimelia affecting her right leg, which was amputated below the knee when she was seven months old. Growing up, she enjoyed downhill skiing and mountain biking but struggled with being different. Through sport, Sarah gained confidence as an amputee and as an athlete, eventually becoming a member of the Canadian Para-Alpine Ski Team. Now, Sarah is a student at McMaster University, and she loves mountain biking and coaching young ski racers at Mansfield Ski Club.
Hello! I'm Sarah, and I'm a right lower leg amputee. Sport has played a huge role in my life as an amputee, and I'm so grateful for all of the awesome experiences and opportunities I've had through sport. I didn't always have confidence in myself. Given the significant role sport has played in my life, I want to help inspire others to get involved.

We acknowledge the land on which ParaSport® Ontario was built is the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit and the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, the Wendat, and the Haudenosaunee peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum agreement to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. Today Toronto (also known as Tkaronto) is home to many First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous people.
