ParaSport® Ontario Accessibility Policy

ParaSport® Ontario is committed to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility to individuals with disabilities under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), 2005, and to establishing and maintaining operational procedures for the training of employees and volunteers responsible for the delivery of its services, programs, or competitions.

ParaSport® Ontario understands that obligations under AODA and its accessibility standards do not substitute or limit its obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code or obligations to people with disabilities under any other provincial or federal law.

ParaSport® Ontario will strive to ensure that its policies, best practices, and procedures are consistent with and promote the core principles of dignity, independence, and integration without barriers. Any PSO policy which does not align with these core principles will be amended or removed.
1. DEFINITIONS
For the purposes of this Policy, the following definitions apply:
(a) “Access” the ability or extent to which individuals or members of ParaSport® Ontario can achieve full participation in the delivery of services offered by the Association.
(b) “Accessibility” provides individuals, of all abilities, with opportunities to participate fully in everyday life -- the ability to access and benefit from a system, service, product, device, or environment which is available to as many people as possible.
(c) “Barrier” obstacles that limit access and prevent people with disabilities from fully participating.
(d) “Disability” the Ontario Human Rights Code defines disability broadly as:
i. "any degree of physical disability, infirmity, malformation or disfigurement that is caused by bodily injury, birth defect or illness and, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, includes diabetes mellitus, epilepsy, a brain injury, any degree of paralysis, amputation, lack of physical co-ordination, blindness or visual impediment, deafness or hearing impediment, muteness or speech impediment, or physical reliance on a guide dog or other animal or on a wheelchair or other remedial appliance or device,
ii. a condition of mental impairment or a developmental disability,
iii. a learning disability, or a dysfunction in one or more of the processes involved in understanding or using symbols or spoken language,
iv.a mental disorder, or
v.an injury or disability for which benefits were claimed or received under the insurance plan established under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997."
(e) “Member” refers to any entity approved for membership as defined in the PSO By-Law (person, group of persons organized and associated for the purpose of athletics and registered as a Member of PSO), as well as all individuals engaged in activities with PSO (including, but not limited to, athletes; coaches; officials; volunteers; team managers; club administrators, coaches or board members; committee members, directors and officers of PSO; employees; spectators at PSO sanctioned events; and parents/guardians of athletes.
(f) “Service Animal" an animal is a service animal for a person with a disability,
(g) “Service Person” another person who accompanies a person with a disability in order to help him or her with communication, mobility, personal care or medical needs or with access to goods or services.
2. ACCESSIBILITY
This policy describes how ParaSport® Ontario develops, communicates, and provides services, programsor opportunities for persons with disabilities in a manner that respects their dignity, independence, and integration.
  • (a) Assistive devices
    PSO is committed to serving persons with disabilities who use assistive devices (e.g.,canes, crutches, wheelchairs or hearing aids) to access, obtain, use, or benefit from ourprograms and services.
  • (b) Communications and Information
    ParaSport® Ontario is committed to meeting the communication needs of individualswith disabilities. The Association will provide information and communications materials inaccessible formats or with appropriate communication supports. This includes publicly availableemergency information, career opportunities, or technical information.
    ParaSport® Ontario will consult persons with disabilities to determine their communication andinformation needs.
  • (c) Employment
    ParaSport® Ontario will accommodate disabilities during recruitment, assessment, andwhen individuals are hired. PSO will provide customized workplace emergencyinformation to employees who have a disability. When utilizing performance management,career development, and redeployment processes, PSO will take into account the accessibilityneeds of employees with disabilities.
  • (d) Service Animals and Support Persons
    ParaSport® Ontario welcomes persons with disabilities who may bring their guide dog orother service animal or support person on the parts of our premises/facility that are open to thepublic. On rare occasions, it may be determined that a service animal cannot enter an areaof the premises/facility consistent with other laws. In these instances, PSO will suggestappropriate alternatives and provide assistance. Any person with a disability who isaccompanied by a support person will be allowed to enter PSO premises/facility that is open to the public with their support person at no additional cost.

ParaSport® Ontario reserves the right at all times to disclose any information as necessary to satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request, or to edit, refuse to post or to remove any information or materials, in whole or in part, in ParaSport® Ontario’s sole discretion.

Always use caution when giving out any personally identifying information about yourself or your children in any Communication Service. GENERAL

To the maximum extent permitted by law, this agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada. and you hereby consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of courts in Ontario Canada in all disputes arising out of or relating to the use of the ParaSport®Ontario Web Site. Use of the ParaSport® Ontario Web Site is unauthorized in any jurisdiction that does not give effect to all provisions of these terms and conditions, including without limitation this paragraph. You agree that no joint venture, partnership, employment, or agency relationship exists between you and ParaSport® Ontario as a result of this agreement or use of the ParaSport® Ontario Web Site. ParaSport® Ontario’s performance of this agreement is subject to existing laws and legal process, and nothing contained in this agreement is in derogation of ParaSport® Ontario’s right to comply with governmental, court and law enforcement requests or requirements relating to your use of the ParaSport® Ontario Web Site or information provided to or gathered by ParaSport® Ontario with respect to such use. If any part of this agreement is determined to be invalid or unenforceable pursuant to applicable law including, but not limited to, the warranty disclaimers and liability limitations set forth above, then the invalid or unenforceable provision will be deemed superseded by a valid, enforceable provision that most closely matches the intent of the original provision and the remainder of the agreement shall continue in effect. Unless otherwise specified herein, this agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the user and ParaSport® Ontario with respect to the ParaSport® Ontario Web Site and it supersedes all prior or contemporaneous communications and proposals, whether electronic, oral or written, between the user and ParaSport® Ontario with respect to the ParaSport® Ontario Web Site. A printed version of this agreement and of any notice given in electronic form shall be admissible in judicial or administrative proceedings based upon or relating to this agreement to the same extent an d subject to the same conditions as other business documents and records originally generated and maintained in printed form. It is the express wish to the parties that this agreement and all related documents be drawn up in English.
