Martial Arts Para-Judo is an adaptation of an ancient Japanese martial art. Two main differences between the adapted sport (for athletes who are blind or visually impaired) and a match for able-bodied competitors is that para-athletes have contact with each other to start the match and the mat has a different texture.

The art of Judo requires strength, stamina and focus as each judoka battles against a combatant in a five-minute match, the winner accumulating ten points (ippons) using a number of required techniques. There are events for both men and women in various weight classes. Find out more about the sport from the Ontario Blind Sports Association.
