Claire Buchanan is a high-performance athlete currently training with the Canadian Women's Para Hockey team. Claire was born with spina bifida and became involved in parasport at the age of 12, participating in multiple sports before competing internationally and at the collegiate level in wheelchair basketball. The competitive and physical nature of wheelchair basketball and para hockey is what fuels Claire's passion to grow the game of women's para hockey.
Hi, I'm Claire! Being involved in parasport has given me a sense of purpose and a community to be a part of. Parasport truly is for anybody which is what I love about it so much. Sport has given me so many life-changing opportunities. I'm excited to see what sport can add to your life! Let's connect!
We acknowledge the land on which ParaSport® Ontario was built is the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit and the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, the Wendat, and the Haudenosaunee peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum agreement to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. Today Toronto (also known as Tkaronto) is home to many First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous people.
